How Does Invisalign® Work?
The nearly invisible teeth straightening system known as Invisalign® can be an excellent option for many teens and adults seeking a discreet, more comfortable alternative to traditional metal braces. So how does this innovative orthodontic system work? Following an evaluation to determine if Invisalign® is right for you, Dr. Jonathan Coombs and Dr. Don Chiappetti – our experienced dentists – will design a series of customized, removable aligners that work to gently shift your teeth into the desired position over the course of the treatment process.
Once fabricated, you will need to wear each Invisalign® aligner approximately 20-22 hours a day for a recommended period of time before switching to the next aligner in your set. Throughout treatment, you will be asked to occasionally return to our office for check-ups to ensure everything is progressing as planned. These routine visits are generally less frequent and often considerably quicker than the check-ups usually required to adjust brackets and monitor the progression of metal braces.
Most patients are able to attain optimal results with Invisalign® within nine to twelve months, but some individuals have completed treatment in as little as six months. Ultimately, the length of your Invisalign® treatment will be dependent on your specific needs and desires, as well as how good you are about wearing your aligners as directed by Dr. Chiappetti or Dr. Coombs.
